The victories achieved by advocates for vaccine choice and medical autonomy across the country cannot be overstated.
At the federal level, the Democrat Party, whose members consistently pushed for mask and vaccine mandates as well as lockdowns and business closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, was handily defeated. President Trump triumphed over Kamala Harris, and has now nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as HHS secretary to Make America Healthy Again. Republicans retained the House of Representatives while recapturing a comfortable majority in the Senate, ensuring that the Supreme Court remains activist-free for the foreseeable future.
Nearly every state in the country shifted considerably away from the COVID-style tyranny in the Democrat Party. Here in Texas, TFVC-recommended candidates emerged victorious in the general election, setting the stage for the most liberty-minded state legislature in Texas history.
While these stellar victories are worthy of celebration, and every voter should take pride in our collective triumph over medical tyranny, the true battle has only just begun. It is now more crucial than ever that we hold our elected officials accountable and ensure they stay true to their promises of advancing medical liberty. Victory at the ballot box is only the beginning; what follows is the hard work of making sure those we elected take bold action to safeguard the rights of Texans to make their own vaccine decisions without government interference.
As we’ve seen in past legislative sessions, even those with good intentions can fall prey to pressure from lobbyists or special interest groups that seek to undermine the rights of individuals in favor of top-down mandates. There is currently a looming fight in the Texas House over who will be the next Speaker: Dade Phelan or David Cook. Phelan has historically been blamed for medical liberty bills dying, and if he is allowed to retain the speakership, advocates fear he will continue working with Democrats to hinder TFVC’s legislative priorities. We must be vigilant, constantly applying pressure on lawmakers to pass strong protections for vaccine choice rights and to reject attempts to impose new mandates, restrictions, or infringements on personal freedoms.
For Texans for Vaccine Choice, this means not only advocating for the rejection of any form of forced vaccination or medical mandate but also working to pass laws that enshrine and protect our rights to make personal health decisions free from governmental overreach. But, the road ahead may be challenging. There will be forces that will continue to push for mandates, restrictions, and control over personal health decisions, and we must be prepared to fight them at every turn. With the backing of TFVC supporters, allied organizations, and the many voters who have now given us a voice in the state legislature, we can continue to build on the foundation of liberty that we have worked for ten years to establish.
Together, let’s make sure our elected officials remember who they work for: the people of Texas. Texans for Vaccine Choice will continue to lead the charge for medical liberty, but we need every Texan to stay engaged, informed, and ready to act. With your support, TFVC will secure a future where medical liberty is the law of the land in the Lone Star State.
