Medical Liberty Champion of the Week: Senator Lois Kolkhorst

Lois Kolkhorst has been one of if not our strongest Medical Liberty Champion. The Brenham-based senator has stood tall for our Medical Liberties her whole career, while recently fighting to create a Texas specific VAERS style reporting system. Read more about her work so far this session:

SB 1024

  • “Relating to preventative health care and public health; authorizing a civil penalty”
  • Amends Ed Code and Health & Safety Code to clearly specify which diseases a public school student should be vaccinated against (or opt out of) instead of using generic language
  • Prevents DSHS from requiring additional vaccines they “recommend”
  • Prohibits COVID-19 vaccinations from being required for public primary school enrollment or private/public higher ed enrollment
  • Establishes a state-run VAERS for primary vaccinations and booster doses, and requires reporting of any adverse event, even if the practitioner does not believe that the event was caused by the vaccination or booster
  • Texas VAERS cannot be connected in any way to ImmTrac
  • Prohibits any political subdivision from mandating COVID-19 vaccines
  • Prohibits any public or private institution receiving state funds from requiring face masks; requires the TEA to establish such a rule for public schools
  • Prohibits any healthcare provider or facility licensed in the state from discriminating based on vaccination status
  • Prohibits employment discrimination based on vaccination status

SB 1025

  • “Relating to immunization requirements and documentation, including adverse event tracking following the administration of vaccines and booster doses”
  • Amends Ed Code and Health & Safety Code to clearly specify which diseases a public school student should be vaccinated against (or opt out of) instead of using generic language
  • Prevents DSHS from requiring additional vaccines they “recommend”
  • Bans vaccine passports – written or digital – for any vaccine, not just COVID-19
  • ImmTrac information and student immunization records cannot be used to issue or facilitate a vaccine passport
  • Establishes a state-run VAERS for primary vaccinations and booster doses, and requires reporting of any adverse event, even if the practitioner does not believe that the event was caused by the vaccination or booster
  • Texas VAERS cannot be connected in any way to ImmTrac
