TYRANT: Dr. Suleman Lalani – Representative Suleman Lalani, an internist from Sugar Land, was elected in November 2022 to serve in the Texas House. While most freshman legislators work to advance uncontroversial initiatives, Dr. Lalani instead chose to insert himself into the medical liberty and health privacy fight by filing HB 4001, an exact duplicate of a bill filed by our reigning #TyrannySquad Chief Gene Wu. This bill would require daycare centers to disclose immunization rates for their enrollees and employees, as well as their “handwashing policy to prevent the spread of infection”. Not only would immunization rates provide no information of substance, it is a potential violation of privacy, particularly in smaller settings.
This bill has not yet had a hearing, but Dr. Lalani did have a resolution passed on the House Floor on February 22, designating that day as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day, referring to the genetic condition as the reason for the uptick in young athletes succumbing to sudden cardiac arrest.
