Mid-April Session Snapshot

We are just over half way through the 2023 Legislative Session. Let’s take a look at where we are:

Number of Good Bills Filed: 58
Number of Bad Bills Filed: 12
(Follow along with all of the bills that TFVC is tracking here.)

Hearings for Good Bills: 13 (You can read about some of those hearings here.)
Hearings for Bad Bills: 1 (You can read about that here.)

Good Bills out of Committee:
House: 2 have been voted out of committee and are stalled in the Calendars Committee (HB 44 and HB 609)
Senate: 2 have been voted out of committee and waiting to be placed on a Senate Calendar (SB 177 and SB 301)

Good Bills out of Originating Chamber, Received by Other Chamber:
House: 0
Senate: 2 bills have been voted out of committee, passed the full Senate and have been sent to the House (SB 29 and SB 175)

Record Votes Taken:
Full House: 1 (Read about that vote here!)
Full Senate: 2

So let’s break this down:
The Good: We have a historic number of GOOD bills filed, a historic number of hearings held, and the momentum is OURS!
The Bad: The House appears to be taking great pains to slow walk some much needed protective legislation.
The Ugly: With 7 weeks of Session left, it’s GAME TIME!

Team TFVC has worked tirelessly so far this Session. From the rally, to countless bill drafts, to drafting testimonies, to Citizen Engagement Days and meetings with legislators, we’ve been the sole voice of the people at ALL of the hearings and brought you Action Alert upon Action Alert.

Our plea for the last 2 months of Session?

That you do not grow weary. That you keep making the calls, sending the emails, and showing up. YOUR voices are being heard. We have a unique opportunity in this post-COVID Session, and with YOUR help we can get actual protective policies over the finish line. We’re excited to finish strong with YOU!

Thank you Rebecca and Carrie for fighting for our Medical Freedom! I wish I could be in Austin more, but I do try to call and email when y’all send out alerts. Again, thank you so much!
